Abstract: Octopus species has a high degree of adaptability to farming environment. With widely distribution, rapid growth, short breeding cycle and higher nutritional value, Octopus vulgaris has become one of the most important species of Cephalopode. This paper gives a general introduction to its role in octopus culture in marine fishery, its ecology, biological characteristics, breeding biology, aquaculture research status, and exploitation prospect.
