Abstract:
The author examined the karyotypes of two Gobioid species from Xiamen and Hainan coastal waters by treating fin cells with colchicine-hypotonic air drying and Giemsa staining methods. The results show that
Tridentiger trigonocephalus has a diploid number of 44 chromosomes, among which 2 pairs are metacentric chromosomes (M), 13 pairs submetacentric chromosomes (SM), 2 pairs acrocentric chromosomes (ST) and 5 pairs telocentric chromosomes (T) with a fundamental arm number (NF) amounting to 78. The diploid number of
Cryptocentroides insignis is 50, among which 9 pairs are metacentric chromosomes (M), 13 pairs submetacentric chromosomes (SM), 2 pairs acrocentric chromosomes (ST) and 1 pair telocentric chromosome (T), and its NF is 98. Moreover, no satellite chromosome, sexual chromosome or the special chromosome are detected either in
T.
trigonocephalus or in
C.
insignis.
